Winter 9 Hole Sweeps Continue

The two separate Competitions (Front 9 and Back 9 Sweeps) continued at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. There was a very close and exciting finish to Division 1 with only one point separating the first five golfers.

Front 9

Through The Niuc Stephen Black (2) was leading by one point but being hard pressed for the lead by Jim Wilson (5) and Stephen Mailey (4). Black opened with a birdie and followed it with a par, birdie and a bogey. Conor McAuley (5) and George Small (4) were another point behind. The scores remained close throughout and up the Grove two new leaders – Mailey with two pars and a bogey and Small (birdie, bogey, par) – emerged leading by a point from Black ('ding', bogey, birdie), Wilson (two bogeys and a par) and McAuley (bogey and two pars). Mailey (par, bogey), McAuley (two pars) and Wilson (two pars) finished together and with a better last six First place went to McAuley. Wilson won Second place with a better last six and Mailey came third. Small spoiled his chance of winning when he 'dinged' the last after a par at eight. and Black (two pars) finished together a point behind the placings.

Jordan Hood (-3) won the Gross.

In Division 2 approaching Broadmeadows Andrew Ferguson (10) was leading by two points from Joshua Whann (10), Laurence Darragh (7) and Michael Montgomery (8). AaronPattison (10) was another point behind.

Over Beechers one point separated the five players with new leader Pattison, after two pars, a point ahead of Ferguson, who ran into bogey trouble with two double bogeys, Whann (two bogeys), Darragh (par, bogey) and Montgomery (bogey, par). In another close finish Pattison with a bogey at eight and a par at Longlands came in to win by one point from Whann (par, bogey) and Montgomery (par, bogey). Darragh (two bogeys) and Ferguson (par, double bogey) finished another point behind. Second place went to Whann with a better last six and Montgomery as Montgomery won the Seniors, Third place went to Darragh with a better last six.

Back 9

Through The Maple in Division 1 Keith Clements (5) held a slender one point advantage over Brian Mahany (5) followed by Harry Cook (7), Chris Moore (5) and Michael McAuley (7) another point behind. Gareth Marcus (6) was a further point behind. Approaching the Lowlands Cook, with three pars, had joined Clements (three pars) in the lead. Moore (par, birdie, bogey) was a point behind followed by Mahany (two pars and a bogey) another point behind. Marcus (two pars and a bogey) and McAuley (three bogeys) were a further point in arrears. In a nail biting finish Cook (bogey, par) and Clements (bogey, par) came home together with Cook taking First place with a better last six and Clements won the Gross. A point behind in Second place came Mahany with two pars. Marcus (two pars), Moore (two bogeys) and McAuley (two pars) finished together another point behind. Third place went to Marcus with a better last six. McAuley won the Seniors.

In Division 2 approaching Beechers Brian Watt (9) was leading by a point from Mark Connaughty (7) with Conor Doherty (14) another point behind. Trevor Galloway (10) was a further two points back and Colin Thompson (9) ('ding' at eleven) and Graham Murray (10) were another point down. Up the Grove Watt (two bogeys) continued to lead by a point from Connaughty (two bogeys) who was trying hard to overtake Watt. Thompson, after a par at Beechers and a birdie at the Grove had improved and was only another point behind. A further place back came Doherty ('ding', bogey), Galloway (birdie, double bogey) and Murray (two pars). With two bogeys over the closing two holes Watt held on to win by one point from Connaughty (two bogeys) and Doherty (bogey, par). Second place went to Doherty with a better last six and third place to Connaughty. Another point behind came Galloway (par, bogey), Thompson (two bogeys) and Murray (bogey, par).

Joshua Whann (10) 21 pts (BL6) – 3rd. Laurence Darragh (7) 20 pts (BL6) - Gross – Jordan Hood (-3) 20 gr/pts – Seniors – Michael Montgomery (8) 21 pts.
