There was a good turn out of golfers for the Club Professionals Day held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. The golfers were hoping to win one of the many prizes on offer. There were also prizes to be won at selected holes.
A good and enjoyable day was had by the golfers with the weather holding up, the course in good condition and 'freebies' at halfway.
At halfway twenty three handicapper Ashley Doole ('ding' at Broadmeadows) was leading by two points from Brendan Laverty (200. Ian McCully (12) was another point behind. Samuel Graham (27), Neil McVeigh (15) and Michael McGuckin (25) ('dings' at The Niuc and Longlands) were a further one, three and five points respectively back. Approaching The Maple Graham and Laverty had closed to within one point of Doole. McVeigh, McCully and McGuckin were another two,three and four points respectively behind. Over Beechers a new leader had emerged , McVeigh, after recording a par, bogey and another par, was leading by a point from McGuckin (two pars and a bogey), Doole (double bogey, bogey, 'ding'), |Graham (double bogey, bogey, double bogey) and McCully (bogey, birdie, par). In a very close final three holes only three points separated the golfers. McGuckin. McGuckin finished with two pars and a double bogey to win by one point from McVeigh (three bogeys) in second place. Another point behind, Graham, with bogeys at the Grove and Lowlands lost his chance of victory with a 'ding' at the last and was joined by Doole (bogey, double bogey, bogey). Third place went to Graham with a better back nine. McCully (double bogey, bogey, par) and Laverty ('ding' at the Grove and two pars) came in a further point behind with McCully taking fifth place with a better back nine.
