Victory for T.Dunbar and S.Bamber in Millennium Jug

Millenium Jug

The Millennium Jug sponsored by K&G.McAtamney was played for at Galgorm Castle Golf Club as a 2 Man Stroke Competition. There were also two Subsidiary Competitions – an 18 Hole Subsidiary Stableford and aBack 9 Hole Subsidiary Competition. All three Competitions were very close and exciting towards the finish.

At halfway only four shots separated the first six teams. The Thomas Dunbar/Samuel Bamber partnership was leading by a shot from Peter Carron and Laurence Darragh. Neil McVeigh and Trevor Fletcher were another shot behind. The Patrick McAleese and Malachy Graham pairing were a further shot back and the David Halliday/Martin Abernethy and Leonard Campbell/Gerard O'Hagan teams were close up another shot away. Approaching the Devils Elbow the McVeigh/Fletcher team were the new leaders b y a shot from the Dunbar/Bamber and Carron/Darragh partnerships. Four shots further behind came Campbell and O'Hagan and McAleese and Graham. Halliday and Abernethy were another shot down. Up the Grove Dunbar and Bamber had regained the lead by a shot from McVeigh and Fletcher. Two further shots behind came the Carron/Darragh and McAleese/Graham pairings. Two and three more shots back respectively came Halliday and Abernethy and Campbell and O'Hagan. Dunbar and Bamber finished with two pars to win by one shot from McVeigh and Fletcher who also finished with two pars. The Carron/Darragh (par, birdie) and Halliday/Abernethy (eagle, birdie) pairings were another shot behind and with a better back nine the Halliday/Abernethy partnership came third with Curran and Darragh in fourth place. A further shot back came Campbell and O'Hagan (birdie, eagle) and McAleese and Graham (two pars).

 

18 Hole Subsidiary Stableford

Through the Longlands Raymond Lynn (32) was leading by a slender one point from Keith Wylie (26). Aidan O'Kane (10) and Gary Jackson (10) were another point behind. David Gracey (22) was a further point down. Approaching the Devils Elbow Gracey and O'Kane were vying for the lead two points ahead of Jackson. Wylie and Lynn ('ding' at The Maple) were a further point behind. Gracey parred the Devils Elbow and failed to score at |Beechers and O'Kane with a bogey and a par were in the lead with Wylie (bogey, par) closing to within one point. Lynn (par, triple bogey) was another point behind. Jackson ('ding' at Devils Elbow followed by a bogey at Beechers was a further two points back. Gracey double bogeyed the Grove and the Lowlands and finished with a par.and was joined by Wylie with a par, bogey and a 'ding' finish. First place went to Gracey with a better back nine. A point behind in third place came O'Kane (two bogeys and a 'ding'). Lynn (double bogey and two triple bogeys) and Jackson (bogey, double bogey, par) finished together a further two points behind and with a better back nine fourth place went to Jackson. 

Liam Reilly (1) won the Gross with 36 gr/pts. and William Kennedy (27) won the Seniors with 36 pts.

 

Back 9 Subsidiary Stableford

What an exciting contest throughout the whole Back 9! Through The Maple Chris Moore (7) and Jordan Kirk (11) were vying for the lead a point ahead of Trevor Fleming (5). Ivan Alexander (8) was another point behind. Over Beechers Kirk, after a par and double bogey, was leading by a point from Moore (two bogeys) and Fleming (two pars) with Alexander (two bogeys) another point behind. With three holes left to play an exciting finish lay ahead. Kirk parred the Grove and bogeyed the Lowlands to remain one point ahead of Moore (par, bogey), Fleming (par, bogey) and Alexander with two pars. Close finish? Moore, Fleming and Alexander parred the last to draw level with Kirk who bogeyed the last hole. First place was taken by Alexander with a better last three and in second place came Fleming with a better last six.
