McCarroll & McConnell Monthly Medal

There was some very close and exciting golf played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club in the McCarroll/McConnell sponsored May Medal with Jonny Halliday (15), Stephen Logan (12) and Mark Connaughty (18 finishing together. 

Division 1

Through the Front 9 Sean McCormick (5) had reached the halfway point in thirty four shots. James Donaghy (Scr) was a shot behind with Jordan Gaw (6) another two shots behind. Two further shots down came Wilson McVeigh (8). Through The Maple Donaghy was two shots ahead of McCormick with Gaw and McVeigh a further two shots and four shots respectively behind. Up the Grove Donaghy after a par and two bogeys was four shots ahead of McCormick (bogey, par, bogey). Three shots further back came Gaw (bogey and two pars) and McVeigh (par, birdie, par). In a very close finish McVeigh returned with two bogeys for a 69 Nett. Also finishing with a 69 Nett were Gaw (two pars), Donaghy (bogey, par) and McCormick (two bogeys). First place went to McVeigh with a better back six. Second place was taken by Donaghy with a better back nine and third place to Gaw with a better back nine.

Michael Reid (-3) won the Gross with 68 Gross (BB6).

Division 2

At halfway Pat Conlon (13) and Stephen Logan (12) were vying for the lead two shots ahead of David Halliday (10), Aidan O'Kane 10) and David McAleese (14). Approaching the Devils Elbow Logan and Halliday were two shots clear of Conlon and O'Kane. McAleese was another three shots behind. Up the Grove Logan with a run of three pars was leading by a shot from Halliday (par, bogay, par). O'Kane (two pars and a bogey) was another two shots behind followed by Conlon par and two bogeys) and McAleese (par, bogey, par) at one and three shots respectively further back. Logan finished with two bogeys for a 66 Nett (better back nine) to take the OVERALL RUNNER-UP placing. Halliday finished bogey, birdie for a 67 Nett to Win the Division. O'Kane took second place when he finished with two pars for a 69 Nett. Conlon came in with a bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage for a 68 Nett to Win the Seniors. Second place in the Division ws taken by O'Kane after finishing with two pars for a 69 Nett and with a 70 Nett McAleese finished third with two bogeys.

Division 3

At The Fort Mark Connaughty (18) was two shots ahead of James McClintock (15) with Jonny Halliday (15) and Andrew Moore (15) another shot behind. At The Maple Halliday was the new leader but being hard pressed by Connaughty and McClintock a shot behind. Moore was another shot back. Approaching the Lowlands, after a bogey at Devils Elbow, a bogey at Beechers and a par up the Grove, Halliday was two shots ahead of Connaughty (three bogeys). Moore (par, double bogey, bogey) was another shot behind and McClintock (bogey, triple bogey, bogey) a further shot down. Halliday (par, bogey ) and Connaughty (two bogeys) finished together with a 66 Nett. Halliday was the OVERALL WINNER with a better back nine. Connaughty won the Division with a 66 Nett. Second place went to Moore (par, birdie) with a 68 Nett with James McClintock (par, bogey) third with 70 Nett.

T. D'Arcy, L.Darragh and K.Duffin finished with a Nett 71.

Subsidiary

At halfway James Gillan (23) ('ding' at The Niuc) and William Rainey (23) were vying for the lead a point ahead of David Gracey (20). Gary Coulter (29) was another point behind. Through The Maple Rainey had a one point advantage over Coulter with Gracey and Gillan another point behind. Up the Grove following three bogeys Coulter was leading by two points from Gillan (three bogeys). Gracey (bogey, 'ding', par) and Rainey (double bogey, 'ding', double bogey) had fallen back a further two points due to their mishaps at Beechers. Coulter held on to his advantage to finish with a bogey at Lowlands and a triple bogey at Shirleys Cottage to win by two points from Gracey (double bogey and a great eagle three to finish) and Gillan (double bogey, par) who came in together. Second place went to Gracey with a better back nine and Gillan third. Rainey (double bogey, par) finished two points behind the placings.
