Gilmore Engineering victory for Gillan

Gilmore Engineering were the sponsors of the Stableford and Back 9 Subsidiary Stableford Competitions played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. The Overall Winner was James Gillan after a close encounter with Peter Daly who finished the Overall Runnerr-Up a point behind.

Division 1

At halfway John McCarry (8) was leading by two points from Paul Houston (6) ('ding' at Yhe Niuc) with Wilson McVeigh (8) and Liam Reilly (1) another point behind. Sean McCormick (5) was a further point back. Through The Maple McCarry was two points ahead of McCormick and Riley. McVeigh and Houston were another two points behind. Up the Grove after, recording a bogey and two pars, McCarry had increased his lead to three points over McCormick (par, 'ding' par) who was joined by Houston (two pars and a bogey). McVeigh (bogey, par, bogey) and Riley (two bogeys and a par) were close up another point behind. In a close finish McCarry came in with two bogeys to win by a point from a closing McVeigh with a birdie and a par. Third place went to Paul Houston (two pars) another point behind. McCormick (bogey, par) and Liam Riley (two pars) finished together a point behind the placings.

Stephen McAuley (1) won the Gross with 37 gr/pts.

Division 2

After the Front 9 Jonny McIlroy (12) held a narrow one point advantage over Peter Daly (10) with Philip Smyth (10) another point behind. Gary Jackson (10) and Adrian McCart were a further point back. At Arthurs Seat McIlroy was still leading by a point from Daly with Jackson, Smyth and McCart a further one, two and four points respectively behind. McIlroy was proving difficult to dislodge and after a bogey followed by a par at Beechers he was still leading by a point from Daly (bogey, par). Jackson (par, bogey) was another two points behind. Smyth (bogey, 'ding') was a further three points back followed by McCart (two bogeys) another point away. Daly finished strongly with three pars to overtake long time leader McIlroy (three bogeys) to win the OVERALL RUNNER-UP placing. McIlroy (three bogeys) finished a point behind to win Division 2 by two points with Jackson (two bogeys and a par) taking second place. Third place went to Smyth (three pars) and McCart (three pars) came in a point behind the placings.

 

Division 3

At The Fort Colin Thompson (14) was being pushed hard for the lead by Andrew Robinson (20) ('dings' at the opening hole and The Niuc) and Alastair Murray (17) ('ding' at The Niuc) a point behind. Kevin Duffin (20) was a further point back. Sean Mullan (19) ('dings' at Spences and the Trout Hole) was five more points away. Approaching the Devils Elbow Thompson was joined in the lead by Robinson ('ding' at the Piat) a point ahead of Murray. Duffin and Mullan were another one and two points respectively further behind. Up the Grove Thompson with a bogey, birdie, bogey was joined by a new challenger Murray (two pars and a bogey). Robinson ('ding', double bogey, par), Duffin (par, 'ding' par) and Mullan (par, double bogey, par) were a further three points behind. Thompson with a bogey, par finish won by one point from Murray (two bogeys) and Mullan (par, birdie) with second place going to Mullan with a better back nine and Murray won the Seniors. Another point behind in third place came Robinson (two pars) with Duffin (two bogeys) a further two points back.

Division 4

At the beginning of the inward nine Aidan Donnelly (22) ('dings' at the Trout Hole and Longlands) was leading by two points from Trevor Todd (24) ('ding' at The Niuc). Garth Wilson (22) ('dings' at Walkers Home and The Treasury) was another point behind. Gillan, after 'dings' at The Niuc, Walkers Home and The Treasury was a further three points down. A much improved Gillan was vying for the lead with Todd through The Maple but being closely followed by Donnelly and Wilson, a point behind. Down the Lowlands Gillan with a par, birdie, bogey was leading by three points from Todd (three bogeys) and Donnelly (bogey, double bogey, eagle). Wilson (two pars and a 'ding') was a further two points back. Gillan continued to lead and finished with two bo0geys to WIN OVERALL. Todd (double bogey, par) was three points behind and won Division 4. In second place came Donnelly (two double bogeys) a further two points behind and in third place another point down came Wilson (bogey, double bogey).

 

Subsidiary Stableford Back 9

The above competition was won by Ivan Alexander (8) with 20 points.
