Club Professionals' Day

There was a good turn-out of golfers for the Club Professionals' Day held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. The weather was favourable throughout the day and congratulations to the Club Professional's for an excellent and enjoyable day. The course itself was in good condition thanks to the groundstaff.

At halfway high handicapper Martin Abernethy playing off thirty two ('ding' at Spences) held a three point advantage over Jordan Dembinski (10). Tony Quinn (21) and David Halliday (9) were another two pointa behind with Keith Barkley (12) ('ding' at The Treasury) and Victor Orr (23) a further two and three points respectively behind. Through The Maple Abernethy was still leading by three points from new challenger Quinn. Orr and Dembinski were another two points behind. Halliday was a further point down and Barkley ('ding' at he Fort) two more points away. Abernethy bogeyed the Devils Elbow and Beechers but held on to a diminishing two point lead over Quinn (two pars). Orr was lying third after a bogey at the Devils Elbow and a par at Beechers another three points behind. Dembinski (par, bogey) was a further two points down. Barkley (two pars) and Halliday (par, 'ding' at Beechers) were one and two points further back. Abernethy failed to score up the Grove and bogeyed the Lowlands and with one to play was still leading. Could he hold on? Quinn (bogey at the Grove) and a par at the Lowlands was still two points down. Orr with two bogeys had closed and was only another point behind. Dembinski (par, bogey) and Halliday birdied the Grove and parred the Lowlands and were a further two points down. Barkley (two bogeys) was two more points back. With only one hole left to play an exciting finish lay ahead! Abernethy ran into further trouble on eighteen and failed to score. Orr (par) and Quinn (bogey) took advantage and joined Abernethy two points clear of Dembinski (par) and Halliday (par). Barkley bogeyed anfinished a further point behind. First place went to Orr with a better back nine; Quinn came second with a better back nine and Abernethy finished third . In fourth place came Halliday with a better back nine ahead of Dembinski in fifth place.

The Gross winner was Michael Dallat (-2) with 41 Gr. Pts. And Ian McCully (11) won the Seniors with 39 pts.

 

Other winners were – Nearest the Pins – at 5th. Alan Montgomery – at 7th. Adrian Rouke – at 12th. Lyle Foster – at 14th. Michael Greer.
