Bob & Berts - PGA Tankard Qualifier

Bob & Berts sponsored the PGA Tankard Qualifier plaqyed at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. There was a close finish between James McClintock playing off a handicap of sixteen and Brian Maybin with a handicap of ten. McClintock was leading by two points with two holes left to play and after a 'ding' by McClintock at the Lowlands Maybin birdied the hole to take a one point lead. Could he hold on to this advantage? Maybin parred the last and McClintock drew level with a birdie. After such an exciting finish the Overall Winner with a better back nine was James McClintock with Maybin taking the Overall Runner Up placing.

 

Division 1

At halfway eight handicapper George Tumilson had a two point advantage over Sean McCormick (5) and Daniel Reilly (4). Approaching The Maple Tumilson was joined by Reilly with McCormick closing to within one point. Over Beechers Tumilson after a par, birdie, par had regained the lead but was closely fololowed by McCormick par, birdie, par) and Reilly (three pars) a point behind. In a very close and exciting finish Tumilson with three bogeys was joined by McCormick with a par up the Grove followed by a bogey and a par at the last and with a better back nine First place in the Division went to McCormick. Tumilson came second with Daniel Reilly (two pars and a bogey) a point behind in third place.

Paul Wilson (1) won the Gross with 37 Gross Pts.

 

Division 2

Through the Front 9 Peter McMullan (10) was leading by one point from David Gault (11) with Keith Padgett (10) and Brian Maybin (10) a further point back. After The Maple McMullan continued to lead. Two points behind came Padgett with Maybin and Gault a further one and two points respectively behind. After recording a birdie, par and a bogey McMullan was two points ahead of new challenger Maybin (par, birdie, par) followed by Padgett (par, bogey, par) and Gault (par, birdie, bogey) another point behind at the Grove. McMullan lost the lead after a 'ding' at the Lowlands enabling Maybin with a par to take a one point lead. Maybin parred the last to finish . McMullan parred Shirley's Cottage and was joined at the finish by Padgett (two pars). First place in the Division went to Padgett with a better back nine. Gault (double bogey, par) came in two points behind to take third place,

 

Division 3

After the Longlands Robin Ramsey (19) held a narrow one point advantage over James McClintock (16) and Samuel Campbell (16) followed by Damian Gillan ((17) a further two points behind. Through The Maple Ramsey was joined in the lead by McClintock. Campbell ('ding' at The Maple) was six points down followed by Gillan a further point behind. Down the Lowlands McClintock after two pars and a bogey at the Grove was leading by one point from Ramsey (par and two bogeys). Campbell (three pars) was another four points behind followed by Gillan (three pars) a further point behind. James McClintock after a 'ding' at the Lowlands finished with a birdie to Win Overall. Ramsey double bogeyed the final two holes and was joined by Campbell with two pars. First place went to Campbell with a better back nine and Ramsey came second. Gillan (bogey, birdie) came in one point behind to take third place with a better back nine.

 

Division 4

Entering the Back 9 Garth Wilson (22) ('ding' at The Fort) held a three and four point advantage over Tony Dodds (20) and John McClintock (22) respectively. Approaching the Devil's Elbow Wilson was leading by two points from McClintock with Dodds anothertwo points behind. Up the Grove Wilson was still holding a two point advantage after a bogey, par, bogey over McClintock (two bogeys and a par) with Dodds (bogey, birdie,bogey) a further point back. Wilson held on with a double bogey and a bogey finish to Win the Division by a point from John McClintock (two bogeys) in second place. Third place went to Dodds (double bogey, par) with a better back six.

Mervyn Lamont won the Seniors with 41 Pts.
