Dodds wins PGA Tankard Qualifier

Tony Dodds won The PGA Tankard Qualifier sponsored by Stephen's Catering Equipment played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

Division 1

At halfway Keith Padgett with a handicap of five held a three point advantage over Gerard O'Hagan (3) and Jamie Sutherland (-5). Ciaran Hendry (5) was another point behind followed by Alan Simpson (3) a further point down. Throuigh The Maple Padjett was stillo leading but by two points from O'Hagan and Hendry. Simpson and Sutherland were another three shots behind. Simpson with birdies at the Devils Elbow and Beechers closed to within two points of Padgett (par, bogey) and joined O'Hagan (bogey, par) and Hendry (par, bogey). Sutherland (failed to score at Devils Elbow and parred Beechers) was a further four points behind. Padgett finished with three pars to Win Division 1 by two points. There was a very close and exciting finish for the placings between Simpson (pars at the Grove and Lowlands and a birdie at Shirleys Cottage, Hendry (birdie up the Grove, 'ding' at Lowlands and finished with another birdie) and O'Hagan (par at the Grove, birdie down Lowlands and finished with a par) returned with equal points. Second place went to Simpson with a better back nine and third place to Hendry with a better back nine. Sutherland bogeyed the Grove, birdied the Lowlands and Shirleys Cottage. was another four points behind but Won the Gross with 38 Gross points.

Division 2

George Kernohan (9) was leading by two points from Paul Reid (10) with Seamus McLoughnay (7) close up another point behind. Norman Reid (10) was a further four points back. At the Devils Elbow tee box the first three positions remained the same with Norman Reid closing to within two points of McLoughnay. Paul Reid , after recording a par at Devils Elbow, a bogey over Beechers and a par at the Grove, was the new leader by a point over Kernohan (bogey at Devils Elbow, 'ding' at Beechers and bogey at the Grove) and McLoughnay (pars at Devils Elbow and Beechers and a bogey at the Grove). Norman Reid (two pars and a bogey at the Grove) was still another two points behind. In another close finish for the placings Paul Reid (double bogey at Lowlands and a par at Shirleys Cottage), and McLoughnay (two pars) finished together. McLoughnay Won the Division with a better back nine and second place went to Paul Reid. Kernohan (par, double bogey) came third a point behind and Norman Reid bogeyed the Lowlands and finished with a par at Shirleys Cottage a point behind the placings.

 

Division 3

Having reached The Fort twelve handicapper David Martin was leading by two points from Patrick Reid (12) with Harry Cook (14) and Lyle Foster (12) another point behind. James K O'Shea (12) and Graham Simms were a further four and five points respectively back. Approaching Beechers Martin and Foster ('ding' at The Fort) were being pressed for the lead by Reid and Cook a point behind. O'Shea was another two points back followed by Simms a further point down. Reaching the Lowlands O'Shea with pars at Beechers and the Grove was the new leader by a point from Reid (birdie, par). Another point behind came Martin and Foster, both players with bogeys at Beechers and pars at the Grove. Cook (bogeys at Beechers and the Grove) was another two points behind and Simms (bogeys at Beechers and the Grove) a further three points back. Patrick Reid completed his round with bogeys at Lowlands and Shirleys Cottage and was joined by Martin (bogey, par) and Foster (bogey, par) a point ahead of O'Shea (pars at Lowlands and Shirleys Cottage). Foster finished the OVERALL RUNNER UP with a better last six. Martin WON the SENIORS and Patrick Reid Won Division 3 by a point from O'Shea in second place. Cook finished with two bogeys a further two points behind O'Shea to take third place and Simms (bogey, birdie) came in a point behind the placings.

Division 4

Through the Front 9 Christopher Gordon (28) was leading by a point from Gerard Lynn (18). Brian Mahany (19) and Tony Dodds (16) were playing well another point behind, followed by Peter O'Loughlin (17) a further point back. Approaching the Devils Elbow Gordon was leading by three points from Lynn, Dodds ('ding' at The Fort) and O'Loughlin. Mahany ('ding' at The Fort) was a further four points behind. Gordon bogeyed the Devils Elbow and double bogeyed Beechers. The pressure was increasing as his lead was reduced to one point by O'Loughlin (bogey, par), Lynn (par at Devils Elbow followed by a bogey at Beechers) and Dodds (bogey at Devils Elbow and a par at Beechers. Mahany (two pars) was closing but still another three points behind. Dodds bogeyed the Grove, parred Beechers and bogeyed Shirleys Cottage to WIN OVERALL with a better back nine. Gordon (par at the Grove, 'ding' down Lowlands and finished with a triple bogey) was a point behind and O'Loughlin (bogeys at the Grove and Lowlands with a double bogey finish) and Lynn (two bogeys and a double bogey) a further point down. Mahany (two bogeys and a par) was another point back. Gordon Won Division 4 . O'Loughlin finished second with a better back nine and Lynn came thir
