Castle & Estate

Galgorm Castle is an historic estate dating back to the early-1600's and has evolved into one of Northern Ireland’s most vibrant destinations with diverse business, golf and recreational activities housed there.

The focal point is the 17th century Jacobean castle built in 1618 - a historical reminder of the important role the Galgorm Estate played in Irish history.

n May 1607, King James I granted Galgorm Castle Estate to the mighty warrior Rory Og MacQuillan, but Sir Faithful Fortescue tricked Rory Og out of the estate and built Galgorm Castle in 1618. The castle remains one of the finest examples of Jacobean architecture in Ireland and overlooks the 10th green, where the remnants of MacQuillans fort remain to the rear the putting surface.

In the shadow of such fine Jacobean architecture, other vibrant businesses such as Creative Gardens and the Courtyard Business Park can be found. Galgorm is also Northern Ireland’s premier tournament venue and is home to the ISPS HANDA World Invitational, host venue for the 2020 Irish Open and where the Northern Ireland Open was played for over a decade. The Ulster Men’s & Women’s Strokeplay Championship was also first played at Galgorm.

Away from the championship golf course there is plenty of opportunity to try the game for the first time at the Fun Golf Area with a six-hole short course and Himalayas Putting Green. The Galgorm Fairy Trail is another family option which runs out of Arthur’s Cottage at the Fun Golf Area.

And if looking for great food and drink, a meal at the Castle Kitchen + Bar at the Galgorm Castle clubhouse is a must. Members and non-members are welcome.
