McQuillan ‘rock’ solid in close Finish
The Robinson’s NISA Extra sponsored Order of Merit Stableford Competition continued at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. After opening with four pars John Rock (4) and Joel McNeilly (2) (birdie, two pars and a bogey) were leading through The Maple by a point from Shane McQuillan (2) (four pars) and Stephen Black (4) who opened with an eagle three at The Fort. John Wilson (4), Norman Reid (3) and Chris Cooke (4) were another point behind. Over Beechers McNeilly with two pars was leading by a point from Rock after a bogey and a par, McQuillan (two pars) and Black (two pars). Wilson (two pars), Reid (two pars) and Cooke (two pars) were another point behind. Down the Lowlands and with one to play Rock after two pars was leading by a point from McQuillan (birdie, par), McNeilly (two pars), Reid (par, birdie) and Cooke (two pars). Wilson (bogey, par) and Black (double bogey, par) were another point behind. In a very close finish with only one point separating the seven players Rock (par), McQuillan (birdie) and McNeilly (birdie) came in together and with a better last one first place went to McQuillan with Rock (better last six) second. McNeilly won the Gross. Another close finish for third place between Reid (par), Cooke (par), Wilson (birdie) and Black (birdie) who finished together and with a better last six third place went to Wilson.
Approaching the Devils Elbow in Division 2 Robert Graham (5) and Ian McCully (5) were leading by a point from Ian Stewart (6). William Moore (8) and Harkness McCaughan (8) were another two points behind with Peter McMullan (8) and John Caulfield (7) a further point back. Up the Grove McCully after a further three pars, Stewart (three pars), McMullan (bogey and two birdies), Caulfield (par, birdie, par) and McCaughan (three pars) were vying for the lead a point ahead of Moore (par, bogey,par) and Graham (bogey and two pars). McMullan with a par, birdie finish won by three points from Caulfield (bogey, par) and Stewart (par, bogey) and with a better last six second place went to Caulfield with Stewart taking the Seniors. There was another close finish for third place between McCaughan (bogey, double bogey), McCully (two bogeys), Moore (two bogeys) and Graham (bogey, par). Third place went to Moore with a better last five.
In Division 3 after The Maple Jonathan Forgrave (9), Finlay Robinson (9) and John McClintock (8) were in the lead by a point ahead of David Rankin (12) and Ian Manson (9) followed by Walter Lewis (9) (‘ding’ at eleven) a further point behind. Over Beechers and with three left to play Robinson with a birdie and a bogey was leading by a point from McClintock (bogey, par) with Lewis (two pars), Forgrave (two bogeys), Rankin (par, bogey) and Manson (bogey, par) close up another point down. Lewis with three pars and Forgrave (three pars) finished together with first place going to Lewis with a better last six and Forgrave in second place, Again, another close finish for third place between Robinson with a par and two double bogeys, M:cClintock (par, bogey, double bogey), Manson (par and two bogeys) and Rankin (bogey, double bogey, par). Third place was taken by Rankin with a better last six.

David Rankin (24) 20 pts (BL6) – G|ross – Joel McNeilly (4) 19 gr/pts – Seniors – Ian Stewart (11) 21 pts.

Over The Niuc James Mairs (5) after opening with four pars was leading by a point from Malachy Kyne (8) followed by Neville Neill (4) another two points behind. Down Broadmeadows Mairs with a par and a double bogey was joined by Kyne (par, bogey) and Neill (birdie, par). With one to play Mairs (par, bogey), Kyne (bogey, par) and Neill (par, bogey) were still level and in an exciting last hole Mairs (par), Kyne (bogey) andf Neill (par) finished together and with a better last six Neill took first place with Kyne (better last two) second.
