Close finish to Division 1
In Division 1 through The Maple in the Robinson’s NISA Extra sponsored Order of Merit Stableford played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club John Rock (4) and Philip Smyth (3) were vying for the lead a point ahead of Fintan McLarnon (3) with Gary McWilliams (3) and Mark Dunlop (3) another point behind. Up the Grove, Rock, after a run of par, bogey, par was joined in the lead by McLarnon (par, birdie, par). Smyth (two pars and a bogey) was a point behind followed by Dunlop (three pars) another point down with McWilliams (two pars and a bogey) a further point back. In an exciting finish only one point separated the five golfers. Rock (bogey, birdie) and McLarnon (two pars) finished together and with a better last six first place went to McLarnon. A point behind the placings came McWilliams with a late run of two birdies, Dunlop (par, birdie) and Smyth (two pars).
In Division 2 approaching the Devils Elbow William Rainey (6) was leading by a point but being hard pressed for the lead by James McClintock(6) and Keith Dinsmore (6). Robert Graham (6) was another two points behind followed by Neil Fitzsimmons (6) a further two points back. Up the Grove Rainey after a bogey, birdie, bogey was joined by McClintock (three pars). Dinsmore (three bogeys) and Graham (two pars and a bogey) were another three points down followewd by Fitzsimmons (three pars) a further point behind. Over the closing two holes Rainey finished par, bogey to win by one point from McClintock (two bogeys). Fitzsimmons came late with a par and a birdie to finish a point behind the placings as did Graham (bogey, birdie) and Dinsmore (two pars).
Gerard Lynn (8) and Garth Wilson (7) were leading in Division 3 after the opening four holes with Patrick Reid (8) and Finlay Robinson (9) a point behind. Joe Barr ((8) was another point behind. Up the Grove after a par, bogey, par Lynn had opened a two point lead over Reid (bogey, par, bogey) followed by Barr (bogey, par, bogey), and Wilson (‘ding’, bogey. par) another point behind with Robinson (doubloe bogey and two bogeys) a further point away. In a two hole run for home Lynn came in bogey, par to win by two points from Reid (bogey, par). Two points further back Barr (two bogeys), Wilson (bogey, par) and Robinson (bogey, par) finished together.
Division 1 – 1st. Fintan McLarnon (5) 22 pts (BL6) – 2nd. John Rock (8) 22 pts
Division 2 – 1st. William Rainey (13) 23 pts – 2nd. James McClintock (11) 22 pts
Division 3 – 1st. Gerard Lynn (17) 24 pts – 2nd. Patrick Reid (16) 22 pts.
Twos were recorded by – J.McNeilly, S.Bamber, M.McIlroy, A. Murray, P.Coleman and G.Wilson.
Through The Niuc Craig Dean (9) was leading by a point from Ralph Clarke (12) and Antony Blair (9). Down Broadmeadows Clarke, after a birdie and a bogey, had taken the lead . Blair (bogey, par) was two points behind with Dean (bogey, ‘ding’) a further two popints back. Clarke finished par, double bogey, bogey to win by two points from a strong finishing Dean (par, bogey, birdie). Blair (par, bogey, double bogey) finished another point behind.
