M.Foster wins on last Green
The Order of Merit Stableford Competition sponsored by Robinson’s NISA Extra continued at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
Through The Maple in Division 1 Fintan McLarnon (3) and Paul Hughes (5) were vying for the lead with George Small (4) close up a point behind.. Mervyn Foster (3), Paul Steenson (5), Matthew Harkness (2) and Joel McNeilly (2) were another point back. Up the Grove only one point separated seven players – McLarnon, after a bogey and two pars, was joined by Small (two pars and a bogey), Harkness (two pars and a birdie) and McNeilly (birdie and two pars) a point ahead of Hughes (‘ding’, par, bogey), Foster (three pars) and Steenson (two pars and a bogey). A very close and exciting finish lay ahead and although only one point separated the players the order had changed somewhat. Small (bogey, par), Harkness (two pars), McLarnon (bogey, par), Hughes (two pars) and McNeilly (bogey, birdie) all finished together but were unable to withold the late challenges of Foster (two birdies) and Steenson (birdie, par) and with a better last one M.Foster took first place with Steenson second. Third place went to Small with a better last six and McNeilly won the Gross.
Approaching The Maple in Division 2 Paul Reid (5) was leading by a point from Brian Mahany (6) with Jim Wilson (6) another point behind. Andrew Robinson (7) and Neil Fitzsimmons (6) were a further point back followed by James Logan (6) another point away. A new leader emerged over Beechers with Mahany, after a bogey, birdie, par, leading by a point from Reid (three pars). Fitzsimmons ( three pars) and Wilson (bogey, par, bogey) were a further two points behind with Logan (bogey and two pars) and Robinson (par, double bogey, bogey) another one and two points respectively further behind. Reid finished par, bogey, birdie to win by two points from Mahany (three bogeys). Another point back came Fitzsimmons (two pars and a bogey), Wilson (two pars and a bogey) and a fast finishing Robinson with a birdie, bogey and another birdie. Third place went to Robinson with a better last three. Logan won the Seniors.
In Division 3 Austin McGillian (9) opened briskly with an eagle three at The Fort followed by a bogey ,birdie, bogey to take a three point lead at The Maple over Kevin Duffin (10) with Richard Lennox (7) and Robin Deane (9) another point behind. McGillian continued to lead and after a par, double bogey, par was two points ahead of an improving Lennox (three pars). Duffin (two bogeys and a par) and Deane (two pars and a bogey) were another point behind. McGillian ran into bogey trouble over the closing two holes and lost his chance of winning after finishing with two double bogeys but managed to hold third place. Lennox took advantage and with two pars came in to win by one point from Duffin (bogey, par) with a better last six. Deane (two bogeys) was another point behind.

Division 2 – 1st. Paul Reid (10) 25 pts – 2nd. Brian Mahany (!2) 23 pts – 3rd. Andrew Robinson (13) 22 pts (BL3)
Division 3 – 1st. Richard Lennox (15) 23 pts – 2nd. Kevin Duffin (19) 22 pts (BL6) – 3rd. Austin McGillion (18) 22 pts
Gross – Joel McNeilly (5) 20 gr/pts
Seniors – James Logan (12 ) 22 pts (BL3).
Twos were registered by – J.McNeilly (x2), A.Atkinson , P.Hughes, B.Mahany, A.McGillian and I.McCullough.
Jonathan Keys (7) was leading through The Niuc by a point from Jim Millar (8) with Chris Moore (6) and Norman Nicholl (3) another point behind. Millar, after a run of par, bogey, par, was leading after The Treasury by a point from Keys (par, double bogey, bogey), Moore (bogey and two pars) and Nicholl (three pars). In a very close finish Millar (double bogey, birdie) and Moore (bogey, birdie) came in together and with a better last six first place went to Moore . A point behind Nicholl (bogey, birdie) and Keys (bogey, par) finished together with third place going to Nicholl with a better last six.
