The Robinson’s NISA Extra sponsored Order of Merit Stableford continued at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. However, due to the inclement weather conditions, this resulted in a lower number of entries than usual for the competition.
In Division 1 through The Maple Josh Nichol (5) held a one point advantage over Stephen Sexton (5), Paul Steenson (5) and Rod Lennox (4) with Colin Steele (2) and John Rock (4) another point behind. Over Beechers Nicholl with two pars was still leading by a point from Sexton (two pars) and Lennox (birdie, bogey). Steele (two pars) and Rock (two pars) were another point behind. Down the Lowlands and approaching the final tee Nicholl with another two pars was still holding on to his one point lead. Trying hard to catch and indeed overtake the leader were Steenson (two pars) and Lennox (two pars). Sexton (par, bogey), Rock (par, bogey) and Steele (two pars) were a further one, two and three points respectively behind. Nicholl finished with a par to win by two points from Steenson (bogey) and Sexton (par) and with a better last one second place went to Sexton. Rod Lennox (‘ding’), Rock (par) and Steele with a late birdie finished together a point behind the placings.
Approaching The Maple in Division 2 Rory Drysdale (8) and Mark Connaughty (9) were vying for the lead a point ahead of Ryan Dodds (8). Barry Mott (6) was another point behind. Over Beechers Drysdale (bogey, par, bogey) and Connaughty (two bogeys and a par) had increased their lead over Dodds (double bogey, par, bogey) with Mott (double bogey, bogey, birdie) another point behind. In a close finish only one point separated the four players. Dodds bogeyed at the Grove and followed with two pars to join Drysdale who ‘dinged’ the Grove and finished with two pars. First place was taken by Dodds with a better last six. Mott, with three pars was trying hard to catch the leaders, but fell a point short and joined Connaughty who was leading by a point with one to play but let down by a ‘ding’ at the last hole and finished a point behind. Third place went to Mott with a better last six.
