Close finishes all Round
There was another week of close finishes to all Divisions in the Robinson’s NISA Extra sponsored Stableford Competition played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
What a finish to Division 1 with eight players involved and only separated by two points. Through The Maple John McCarry (5), Paul Houston (3), Shane McQuillan (2) and Peter Houston (4) were vying for the lead a point ahead of Sean McCormick (1) and Mervyn Foster (4) with Keith Barkley (6) and Kevin McCavera (5) another point behind. After a birdie and two pars Peter Houston was leading by a point from McCarry (three pars) and McQuillan (par, birdie, par). Barkley (bogey, birdie, par), McCormick (par, birdie, par),Foster (three pars) and McCavera (two pars and a birdie) were another point behind followed by Paul Houston (bogey, and two pars) a further point down. McCarry finished with a par and a birdie to win by one point from McCormick (two birdies)who won the Gross. Another point behind Barkley (two pars), Foster (two pars), Paul Houston (birdie, par), McCavera (two pars), McQuillan (bogey, birdie) and Peter Houston (double bogey, par) were engaged in an exciting final two holes for the placings. Second place went to Barkley with a better last six and M.Foster with a better last six finished third.
Approaching the Devils Elbow in Division 2 Timothy D’Arcy (6) was leading by a point but being hard pressed by Alistair Murray (6), Keith Dinsmore (7) and Barry Mott (7). Richard Lennox (8) was a further point behind. Murray birdied fourteen and followed up with two pars and Mott with three pars were joint leaders up the Grove. A point behind came Dinsmore (two pars and a bogey) and D’Arcy (bogey and two pars) with Lennox (par, bogfey, par) a further point back. Another exciting finish lay ahead with two holes left to play. Murray (bogey, par), Mott (par, bogey), Dinsmore (two pars), D’Arcy (two pars) and Lennox (two pars) all finished together. In first place was Richard Lennox with a better last three. Second place went to Dinsmore with a better last three and in third place came Murray with a better last one.
In Division 3 approaching The Maple Kevin Duffin (10) was one point in the lead from Andy Young (11) Andy McWilliams (17), Aidan Donnelly (9), Samuel Graham (11) and Harkness McCaughan (9) were anothyer point behind. McWilliams with a run of par, bogey, par emerged as the new leader by a point from Young (par, bogey, par) over Beechers. A further two points behind came Donnelly (bogey and two pars), Graham (par and two bogeys) and Duffin (three bogeys). McCaughan (par and two bogeys) was another point down. McWilliams held on after finishing with a par and two double bogeys to win by one point from Young (bogey, par, bogey). Third place went to Donnelly (par, bogey, par) another point behind. A further point behind the placings came Graham (bogey, par, bogey), Duffin (two pars and a double bogey) and McCaughan (bogey and two pars) who finished together. McCaughan won the Seniors.

Over the Niuc Michael Montgomery (8) held a slender one point advantage over Bernie Frayne (11), Joel McNeilly (5) and Tony Quinn (8). Malachy Kyne (8) and Ronnie Gilchrist (8) were another one and two points respectively further behind. Through The Treasury, Kyne, after a par, birdie, par, joined Montgomery (par, bogey, par) in the lead, a point ahead of Frayne (double bogey, par, bogey), McNeilly (bogey, birdie, par) and Quinn (bogey, par, par). Gilchrist (birdie, bogey, bogey) was a further two points behind. Montgomery finished with a bogey and a birdie to win by two points. There was an exciting climax for the other placings with Kyne (two bogeys), Frayne (par, bogey), McNeilly (bogey, eagle), Quinn (par, bogey) and Gilchrist with a late run of par, birdie all finishing together. Second place went to Gilchrist with a better last three with Frayne in third place with a better last three.
