Team Classic Salver sponsored by William Allen Meats was played as a 4 Man Better Ball Stableford on the opening day of the Summer Competitions at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. Unfortunately the weather did not hold up with some very heavy showers making golf very uncomfortable at times.
At halfway Team 2 (Rod Lennox, Richard Lennox, John Rainey and Philip Galloway) were leading by two points from TEAM 1 (M.Graham, S.Mullan, C.Doherty and P.McAleese). TEAM 3 (D.Gracey, W.Rice, R.Artt, and A.Rouke) and
TEAM 4 (J.O'Shea, G.Jackson, J.Wilson and R.Kernohan) were equal third another two points behind.
Through The Maple there was a change in leadership when M.Graham, S.Mullan,C.Doherty and P.McAleese, after recording a further twenty three points were leading by one point from Rod Lennox, Richard Lennox, John Rainey and Philip Galloway. Behind, the Gracey, Rice, Artt and Rouke 4 Ball team were playing steady and after scoring twenty three points were lying in third position another poinbehind. O'Shea, Jackson, Wilson and Kernohan were still holding fourth position a further point back. With six holes left to play only three points separated the top four teams. Over the next three holes Team 1 increased their lead to three points over Team 3 up the Grove. Team 2 had fallen back to third place another point behind, leaving Team 4 in fourth position a further three points away.
Down the Lowlands Team 2 were trying hard to catch leaders Team 1 and with one hole to play had closed to withjin two points of the leaders. Team 3 were also making their effort and joined Team 2 with Team 4 a further three points behind. Team 1 scored six points at the final hole and held on to win by three points from Team 2 with a final five points. Two points further back in third place came Team 3 and Team 4 closed to within one point of Team 3.
