The J.&R. Keys Tiles sponsored Meeting of the Rivers Trophy was played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club with weather conditions more like summer than in previous weeks.
There was a very close and exciting finish in Division 1 with only one point separating seven players At halfway Sean McCormick (4) held a one point advantage over JJ McAnally (4), Liam Reilly (1) and Sean McElroy (6). Shane McQuillan (4) and Philip Graham (1) were another point behind with Paul Houston (5) a further point down. Through The Maple the pace was hotting up with McAnally, McQuillan, McElroy and Graham joining McCormick in the lead by a point from Houston. Reilly was another point behind. Approaching the Lowlands McCormick after three pars had regained the lead by a point from Houston (three pars), McAnally (bogey, par, par), McElroy (par, bogey, par) and Graham (bogey, par, par). McQuillan (‘ding’, par, par) and Reilly (three pars) were another point behind. McCormick (two pars), McAnally (par, birdie) and Houston (two pars) finished together a point ahead of McQuillan (par, birdie), Reilly (bogey, eagle), McElroy (bogey, par) and Graham (bogey, birdie). First place went to Paul Houston with a better back nine. McAnally took second place with a better back nine w2ith McCormick in third place. Philip Graham won the Gross.
In Division 2 at the turn Cianan Mooney (12) had a narrow one point advantage over David Keys (11) and Norman Nicholl (10) followed by Adrian Adams (11) and Neville Neill (10) another point behind. Approaching the par three fourteenth Mooney was still leading by a point from Nicholl. Adams was two points further behind with D.Keys and Neill another p[oint back. Up the Grove Nicholl (three pars) joined Mooney (two bogeys and a par) in the lead. Adams (three pars) was a point behind with D.Keys (par, bogey, par) and Neill (par, bogey, par) another two and three points respectively behind. Mooney with two pars Won Overall by a point from Adams (two pars) who finished Overall Runner-up. Nicholl lost his chance of Overall victory when he ran into trouble over the closing two holes to finish double bogey, ‘ding’ and was joined by D.Keys (bogey, par) with First place going to D.Keys with a better back six. Neill (par, bogey) finished third a point behind.
After the front nine in Division 3 Jim Wilson (14) was one point ahead of David McIlroy (15). Jamie Smith (17) was close up a further point behind with Gary Wilkins (14) and Jim Millar (18) another point down. At The Maple McIlroy was the new leader by a point from Wilson, Smith and Wilkins with Millar a further point behind. Through the Grove McIlroy (par, double bogey, par) was still leading by a point from Smith (par, bogey, bogey) and Wilson (three pars). Millar two pars and a double bogey) was another point behind with Wilkins (double bogey and two bogeys) a further point away. McIlroy came home double bogey, par and held on to win by a point from Smith (double bogey, par) in second place. Another point behind, Millar finished double bogey, par to win the Seniors. Wilkins (bogey, par) and Wilson (double bogey, bogey) came in together another point behind and with a better back nine third place went to Wilkins.
Entering the back nine in Division 4 William Crawford (26) was leading by two points from Raymond Strange (24) and Brian Watt (21). Two, four and six points further back were Samuel Bamber (21), Ian Manson (20) and Kevin Agnew (23). Approaching Beechers Bamber had taken over to lead by a point from Crawford who had ‘dings’ at twelve and thirteen. Watt (‘ding’ at twelve) was another two points behind and Manson a further point back followed by Agnew and Strange. Up the Grove and with two to play Crawford (two bogeys) had taken the lead by a point from Bamber (par, ‘ding’). Strange (par, bogey) was a further three points behind with Agnew (two bogeys), Manson (bogey, double bogey) and Watt (two double bogeys) another point down. Crawford with a birdie, ‘ding’ finish held on to win by two points from Bamber (two double bogeys) in second place with Agnew (two bogeys) another point behind in third place. A further point behind the placings came Manson (two bogeys), Strange (bogey, ‘ding’) and Watt ((par, double bogey).
