Birdie victory for Brown
Play continued in the Robinson’s NISA Extra sponsored Stableford at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
Approaching The Niuc in Division 1 Rod Lennox held a one point advantage over Trevor Fletcher with David Brown and John Rainey a further two points behind. Alan Proctor was another point back. Down through Broadmeadows an improved Rainey with a birdie and two pars and Fletcher (bogey, par, bogey) were level with Lennox (double bogey, par, bogey), a point ahead of an improving Brown (par, bogey, par). Proctor was another point behind. With one to play a close finish was anticipated as only one point separated the five golfers. Lennox and Rainey were one point ahead of Fletcher and Rainey who were joined by Proctor moving forward and forcing his way into contention. Rod Lennox parred Longlands and was joined by Rainey (par), Fletcher (par) and Proctor (par). However a birdie by Brown saw him home to win by one point from Proctor (better last six).
Joel McNeilly won the Gross.
Through The Niuc and approaching the fifth tee in Division 2 Austin McGillian and Ian Manson were vying for the lead four points clear of Brian Watt. Down Broadmeadows McGillian after two bogeys moved into a two point lead over Manson (bogey, double bogey) and an improving Watt (birdie, par). Manson improved over the next two holes with two pars and Watt (birdie, par) closed the gap on McGillian (par, bogey) to one point with only Longlands left to play. Could McGillian, with all his experience, hold on after leading for most of the way? All three players bogeyed the last to leave McGillian the winner by one point from Watt and Manson with second place going to Brian Watt with a better last six.
In Division 3 Stephen McCabe after opening with a birdie and two pars was leading by two points from Vincent Miskelly (birdie, par, bogey) with Ashley Doole (‘ding’ and two bogeys) a further two points behind. Through Beechers McCabe was still two points ahead of Miskelly who was joined by an improving Doole. McCabe ‘dinged’ the Grove and both Doole and Miskelly took advantage to lead by one point. In a very close finish Doole (double bogey, bogey), Miskelly (bogey, birdie) and McCabe (bogey, par) finished together and with a better last six first place went to Doole. Miskelly took second place with a better last six.
