Late Rally by Fitzsimmons
Robinson’s NISA Extra sponsored Order of Merit Stableford competition continued at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
What an exciting finish to Division 1 with five players registering the same points score! Approaching The Niuc Trevor Fleming, after opening with a par and two birdies, held a one point advantage over Graham Simms with Philip Galloway and Colin Black a further point behind. Neil Fitzsimmons was another two points down. Through Broadmeadows Simms with a run of birdie, par, bogey was the new leader by a point from Fleming (two bogeys and a birdie) and Black (three pars). Two points further back came Galloway (bogey, par, bogey) and Fitzsimmons (three pars). With one to play Fleming (two pars) had regained the lead by one point over Simms (par, double bogey) followed by Black (par, double bogey) and an improving Fitzsimmons (two pars). Galloway (par, bogey) was ano0ther point behind. In the ensuing last hole scramble Fleming bogeyed Longlands and was joined by Simms (par), Black (par) Galloway (birdie) and Fitzsimmons (par). First place went to Fitzsimmons who led at the right place for the first time with a better last six and second place went to Galloway with a better last three.
In Division 2 Philip Magill set out his intentions early and held a two point advantage over Des Cousley after opening with three pars and a birdie. Keith Dinsmore and Ian Manson were another point behind followed by Jonathan Keys a further point down. Garth Wilson (‘ding’ at The Niuc) was two further points away. Down through The Treasury Cousley (two bogeys and a par) had closed to within one point of Magill (two bogeys and a par) followed by Dinsmore (two bogeys and a par), Manson (bogey, double bogey, par), Keys (par, bogey, par) and an improved Wilson (three pars) who were a further two points behind. Magill finished with two pars to win comfortably by four points from Cousley (bogey, double bogey) in second place. Another point behind came Wilson (two bogeys), Dinsmore (par, double bogey), Manson (two bogeys) and Keys (two bogeys).
Tony Dodds with a par, bogey, birdie opening in Division 3 was leading by two points from Aidan McNeill with Seamus Laverty another point behind. After a run of three pars McNeill was the new leader by a point from Dodds (‘ding’ and two pars) with Laverty (par, bogey, par) another point behind. McNeill finished double bogey, bogey, par and was joined by Dodds (double bogey, par, bogey) but Laverty finished with three pars to win by two points. Second place went to McNeill with a bett back six.
