Golfers were competing for the Bertie Gibson Memorial Trophy held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
At halfway Chris Djorjani (12) held a slender one point advantage from Malcolm Sharpe (21) with Norman Nicholl (8) and Paul Houston (5) another point behind. Gary Jackson (9) was a further point down followed by Peter Houston (8) and Trevor Fleming (9) a point away. Sharpe after a double bogey at the Fort and a run of par, bogey and two pars came through the Devils Elbow three points ahead of Djorjani. Paul Houston, Nicholl, Jackson, Fleming and Peter Houston were one, two, three, four and five points respectively further behind. Sharpe stumbled at Beechers and was joined by Djorjani with a par. A birdie at the Grove saw Djorjani take a two point lead over Sharpe (bogey). Jackson and Nicholl were another three points behind with Houston, Fleming and Houston in close attendance a further point behind. Djorjani moved further ahead with a par at the Lowlands to a ‘ding’ from Sharpe who had Houston, Nicholl, Jackson, Fleming and Houston all level a point behind. Djorjani held on to his five poinht lead with a birdie at the last to win Overall with Sharpe (par) the Overall Runner-up. Paul Houston, Nicholl, Jackson, Fleming and Peter Houston all parred the last and finished level on points. Peter Houston with a better back six won Division 1 with Fleming (better back nine) taking second place and Jackson (better back nine) in third place.
There was an equally exciting finish to Division 2 with five players inhvolved. At the turn there was a trio of golfers – Ivan Alexander (14), Raymond Browne (14) and Derrick McClelland (15) – vying for the lead. Three points further back came Michael McAuley (14) and Tony Carroll (12). Carroll with a birdie and two pars joined McClelland in the lead through the Maple. Alexander (‘ding’ at the Fort) and Browne were a point behind followed by McAuley another point behind. Positions changed approaching the Lowlands with McAuley making a forward move to join Carroll and Alexander two points ahead of Browne and McClelland who both ‘dinged’ the Grove. In another very close and exciting finish Carroll (double bogey, par), Alexander who was leading through the Lowlands after a par but ‘dinged’ the last, McAuley (two bogeys), Browne (birdie, bogey) and McClelland (bogey, par) all finished together. McAuley with a better back sox took first place with Carroll (better back nine) second. Third place went to Alexander with a better back six.
Graham Michael (19) held a two point advantage from David Brown (17) in Division 3 at the turn for home. Tony Quinn (19) was a further point behind with John McClintock (16) another point away. Through the Maple Michael was still ahead but with only a point lead from Brown. Quinn after a ‘ding’ at the Fort was making progress and was another point behind. McClintock was still holding on four points behind the leader. Positions changed through the Grove with Brown making the running after two pars and a bogey to lead by two points from Quinn with John McClintock and Michael (‘ding’ at the Grove) another point behind. McClintock came home with two pars to win by one point from Brown (‘ding’, bogey) and Michael (par, bogey) who finished level and with a better back nine second place went to Brown with Michael third. Quinn (double bogey, bogey) was another point behind.
After the front nine in Division 4 Brian McFall (25) held a narrow one point lead from Ian Manson (21) and James McKay (26) with Raymond Lynn (22) another point behind. Manson made progress over the next four holes to lead by two points at the Maple from Lynn with McKay and McFall a further point behind. With two holes left to play Manson was still leading by two points from Lynn who was two points ahead McKay and McFall (‘ding’ up the Grove). Manson finished with double bogey, bogey to win by two points. Lynn with two bogeys, McKay (double bogey, par) and McFall (two bogeys) finished together and second place went to Lynn with a better back nine. McKay with a better back nine claimed third place.
The Gross was won by Jordan Hood (-2) with thirty seven points and James Logan (16) won the Seniors.
